"GUIDING MOB" 1"x6" Strop.
STROP DESCRIPTION AND STATS.
These hand-made 1"×6" strops made for guided systems that accept 6" long by 1" wide stones.
I've named them the “Guiding Mob Strop" - a nod to what a group of kangaroos is commonly known as - a mob!
Each one of these strops is made from the same consistent, premium-grade Kangaroo leather used across all SSC. strops, with a thickness of approximately 1mm (0.04") thick that's been precisely bonded to a strong but light, 4mm (0.16") aluminium blank - that gives you stability and durability, specifically when used on your guided sharpening system of choice.
Also, these strops will aaccept any stropping abrasive you choose to embed them with.
Built for precision, consistency, and performance across virtually any* guided system. These strops are engineered to preserve and maintain optimal edge geometry - keeping your tools in peak condition.
*Dimensions: 1"×6" (26 mm × 152 mm).
*Total strop weight inc. blank:
45g/1.59oz.
Benefits Of Kangaroo Leather.
Kangroo leather is so effective due to it's unique properties.
It's renound for its fine, and tightly woven flesh fibers along with its abundance of natural abrasive silicates.
Kangaroo leather’s effectiveness comes from its unique natural properties. When used bare - without any added abrasive - it performs exceptionally well, as confirmed during my testing of various stainless and tool steels on a flesh-side-up Kangaroo strop. Its ability to realign an apex’s micro-serrations and remove notiably high hardness steel burrs was genuinely impressive.
This performance is driven by the leather’s naturally occurring silicates - ultrafine abrasives accumulated throughout the hide from a lifetime of grazing on tough native Australian grasses.
This gives Kangaroo leather an unusually high level of inherent abrasive content.
Structurally, Kangaroo leather is lighter, less dense, and far more resistant to deformation than cow or horse hide. Its tightly woven fibre structure provides excellent tensile strength, abrasion resistance, and stability, greatly reducing the “wave” effect common in thicker leathers where surface flex can roll over the apex and dull the edge.
When properly prepared and bonded to a firm, rigid substrate - such as precision-machined, perfectly flat polycarbonate - this naturally finished Kangaroo leather forms a fine yet durable, long-wearing, premium abrasive stropping surface.
